PM to unveil ‘major relief’ in electricity tariff tomorrow

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will make an important announcement on Thursday (tomorrow) regarding providing major relief to domestic and industrial consumers of electricity, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday, quoting its sources.
The prime minister will himself unveil “Who will get relief and how much”. There is possibility of a big drop in per-unit power tariff, sources said.
According to the sources, the prime minister had held a detailed meeting with Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb about the electricity relief package, which was prepared after consultations with the IMF and successful talks with IPPs.
The prime minister will also hold parleys with businessmen and will approve a comprehensive plan for reforming the power sector, the sources said and added a strategy has been framed implementing recommendations regarding reforms in power sector.
A formal ceremony will be held at PM House tomorrow where the electricity package and power reforms will be unveiled, the sources added.
