Rana Sanaullah Khan, special assistant to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on political affairs, said on Thursday there was no American pressure on the government for release of the jailed former prime minister Imran Khan from Adiala Jail.

Speaking to the media after a meeting between the negotiations team of the government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Rana Sanaullah rejected the claims that the government offered to shift Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to his residence at Bani Gala. He said the two sides had quite a positive discussion today and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur too had a wise discussion. He quoted Gandapur as saying that issues should be resolved through dialogue.

When asked to comment on whether the release of 19 PTI supporters by the military courts on mercy appeals was part of any deal, the former law minister said the army has its own legal process and the release of these people was part of that process.
