Former premier AJK quits electoral politics

Former prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Chaudhry Abdul Majeed Wednesday announced quitting electoral politics.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, Chaudhry Abdul Majeed was one of the most senior and seasoned politicians of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
As per the report, he left the electoral politics in favour of his son who would be the new candidate from his native constituency of Chakswari, AJK for the PPP.
The report said the former premier had given the party ticket to his son Chaudhry Qasim Majeed to contest upcoming elections of AJK from Chakswari, AJK from PPP.
The PPP also issued an official statement in which it was confirmed that the party ticket holder from Chakswari Qasim Majeed was the son of former Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed and he would contest from LA-2 Chakswari in Mirpur district.
In the last AJK elections held in 2016, PPP leader Chaudhry Abdul Majeed won the seat by only 828 votes against his close contester of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz Muhammad Nazir while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf contester Zafar Anwar remained third.
