The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Saturday approved Rs3.76 per unit increase in electricity prices for the entire country, including Karachi, under the third quarterly adjustment of the ongoing financial year (FY), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The hike will put an additional burden of over Rs46 billion on consumers.
NEPRA said that consumers would now pay the increased amount in their electricity bills from June 2024 to August 2024.
The Authority said that consumers would be charged Rs1.90 per unit in June; 93 paisa per unit in July and 93 paisa per unit in August.
People reject NEPRA's decision
On the other hand, people have rejected an increase in electricity prices, saying a slight reduction in petrol price last night and now a hike in the power tariff is a relief only in name.
They have said that now they don’t pin hopes on the government that it will provide relief to them.
