The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has hinted at issuing arrest warrants of PTI Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan if he does not appear on next hearing in a contempt case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Four-member ECP bench led by its Sindh Member Nasir Durrani heard the contempt case.
As the proceedings of the case against PTI leaders began on Tuesday, PTI’s lawyer Ali Bukhari informed the Commission that Imran Khan is recovering from bullet wounds and he is in such a state of health that he cannot appear before the ECP.
The PTI lawyer further told the Commission that Fawad Chaudhry also could not make it because his mother is seriously ill and he is with her in hospital; therefore, he should be exempted from appearance.
The lawyer further stated that Asad Umar was wanted to appear before the ECP but his flight got late.
The Election Commission, in reaction, remarked that it has been four months and nobody was heading to the ECP proceedings. “If they do not appear on the next hearing arrest warrants will be issued against them,” the Commission made in crystal clear.
The ECP member Nisar Durrani also directed PTI’s lawyer to submit Imran Khan’s medical certificate and replies to the show-cause notice in the commission.
The PTI lawyer said the senior counsels will submit the required documents. On the ECP said these papers should be with the Commission before the next hearing and put off the case until January 17.
