The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) spokesperson has said former Punjab health minister Dr Yasmeen Rashid misused her power and got her daughter appointed against merit, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.

The anti-corruption inquiry proved that the former health minister used her influence to give her daughter a job and it registered the case against the duo after the probe, the official said.

Dr Ayesha Ali was posted to the King Edward Medical College as an assistant professor against merit, the spokesperson said, adding that Dr Ayesha Ali did not meet the required criteria at the time of her appointment.

Her experience certificate was signed by Dr Yasmeen Rashid herself and she was 47 years old while the age limit was 40 years and she did not submit any application for age relaxation as per law.

Dr Ayesha Ali was preferred to other candidates in the interview and she went abroad soon after getting the job against the rules, the official said, adding that the ACE is taking indiscriminate actions against the corrupt elements.

In February 2021, a report suggested the selection of the daughter of Punjab's health minister against a newly created post at the King Edward Medical University (KEMU) drew criticism.

The issue of ‘favouritism’ came into the spotlight when some young doctors protested against the Punjab government’s decision to bring the Mayo Hospital under the Medical Teaching Institutions Act and uploaded the notification of the appointment in question on social media after the decision.

The protesters claimed that Dr Yasmin's daughter was accommodated in the institution by creating a new department only to please the minister. She was selected as a regular employee rather than on contract.
