Police on Sunday booked three people of a family in Lahore, including a couple, for subjecting a minor housemaid to physical torture.
According to reports, Lahore's Defence Police have registered a case against Waqar, Asad and Iqra after they allegedly tortured their 13 years old housemaid for not performing her duty efficiently.
In her complaint to Lahore's Defence Police Station, housemaid's aunt said the couple beat her badly when she was working at their house.
Incidents are of torture on housemaids are reportedly very frequently in Pakistan, especially in the big cities. However, people involved in most such cases are influencial and use their influnce to bend the law and walk free without any punishment.
A few weeks ago, two housemaids, a mother and her teenage daughter, were allegedly tortured by thier woman employer in Lahore. According to the police, the accused gravely hurt the maids in her house situated in a posh locality of the city near the Lahore airport.
The incident came to light when the neighbours informed the authorities about the young housemaid's deteriorating condition. Police said she was visibly injured and bruised. The accused was immediately arrested and the victims were shifted to a hospital.
Last year, a minor housemaid, who was hired by a civil judge. was subjected to “severe torture” by her employers at their residence in the federal capital Islamabad. However, police were reluctant to register a case of the torture on the 13-year girl because her employer, a civil judge of the Punjab Judicial Service, was working in the Federal Judicial Academy, Islamabad, on deputation for about three years. Finally, the civil judge's wife was arrested and put on trial for her crime. She was granted bail a few months later.
