Sharmin Segal has encountered substantial backlash since the premiere of the web series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The directorial work of Sanjay Leela Bhansali has sparked widespread discussions on social media, with Sharmin finding herself at the center of meme culture and relentless trolling for her stoic portrayal and perceived aloofness towards her fellow actors.

Sharmin reveals that she was so disturbed by the hatred that she had turned off the comments for some of her Instagram posts.

Finally, the actress has opened up about the trolling for the first time after the release of Heeramandi.

In a conversation with News18 Showsha, Sharmin Segal opened up about the constant criticism she has been receiving for her stint in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Talking about the same, the actress mentioned that she acknowledges the fact that the audience has the right to express their opinions. Adding that the criticism gives her perspective and allows her to be okay, Sharmin said:

“The audience is the king at the end of the day. And as a creative person, it’s very important to acknowledge that. They have a right to their opinion – positive or negative. That’s one thing that gives me perspective and allows me to be okay.”

The lady also pointed out that she got both negative and positive responses, but the internet chose to focus more on the former. The 28-year-old actress revealed that following the release of Heeramandi, she decided to stay away from the conversations surrounding 'Alamzeb' until a few weeks ago when she finally decided to read up on everything. She was heard saying:

“I had given my all to Alamzeb’s character. We tend to fixate on the negatives but there are so many positives that have also come along, which we don’t talk about. It’s perhaps not interesting enough to talk about positives and we tend to look over them to some degree. There was a point when I was not looking at many things [reviews] but then slowly, I realised that I was also missing out on a lot of love that I was getting. I’ve now started paying attention to that. Over the last few days, I decided to look through it all. The audience’s opinion is what will probably help you be the best version of yourself.”

Sharmin further added that she noticed constructive criticism and was quite happy after hearing all sides of things. She also mentioned that the whole range of feedback shaped her as an actor and a human being and made her realise how many people she could reach. Elaborating on the same, she said:

“I saw positivity, constructive criticism, and a whole range of feedback and that’s what happens when you put yourself out there as an artist or an actor. It was actually quite nice to hear all sides of things. It’s an inevitability. Opinions shape you as an actor and a human being. These are actual humans responding to you and it makes you realise how many people you can reach. These opinions are very important.”

As almost everyone is discussing Sharmin Segal, she expressed her happiness that she was able to connect with more people in the last few weeks than she could’ve ever connected with in her entire life. Calling it a nice experience overall, Sharmin said:

“They’ve not only connected with Alamzeb and Sharmin but also with Aastha from Malaal. Malaal is in the list of top ten shows because of Heeramandi. Heeramandi has allowed me to connect with so many people across the globe. It’s quite a nice experience overall.”
