A police officer was arrested for allegedly raping a young girl in Dera Ghazi Khan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

Sub-Inspector of Punjab Police Saif Ullah who was accused of raping the young student was later arrested.

The victim girl herself lodged an FIR at Darahma police station against the police officer. The police have initiated further legal proceedings.

Punishment for rape under the Pakistani laws is either death penalty or imprisonment of between ten and twenty-five years. For cases related to gang rape, the punishment is either death penalty or life imprisonment
