Thousands of people took to the streets on May 9, 2023 in nearly all major cities of the country to register their protest against the arrest of former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan by Rangers from a court in Islamabad.
They attacked and ransacked government and military installations, including the GHQ in Rawalpindi, and even set some of these buildings on fire besides damaging the memorials of the Pakistan Army martyrs to vent their anger at the government.
The incident made headlines the world over, bringing a bad name to the country.
