Govt defers Rs7.90 per unit hike in power tariff

At last a big sigh of relief for the inflation-hit people as the federal cabinet, in its meeting on Monday, deferred an increase in the electricity price by Rs7.90 per unit, reported 24NewsHD TV channel while quoting its sources.   

Earlier, the ECC had proved hike in the power tariff but later Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif decided against it. 

Sources added that the federal ministers conveyed to the prime minister the situation with respect to load-shedding in their respective constituencies. 

They also told 24News that the cabinet decided not to generate electricity from imported fuel in future. 

Federal Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan, on the occasion, said that now electricity would be generated from hydel, Thar Coal and other sources.
