Progress has been made in providing affordable solar energy to Karachi as KEPCO (Korean Electric Power Company) has proposed supplying electricity to K-Electric at Rs9.8 per unit, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
According to KEPCO’s official statement, the proposal is based on an exchange rate of Rs288.65 per US dollar, translating to a cost of 3.4 cents per kilowatt-hour.
The solar project is planned to be installed in Deh Halkani, Karachi South District, and will commence after final approval from NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority).
K-Electric has also announced plans to develop 640 MW of renewable and environmentally friendly energy projects in the coming years.
Meanwhile, NEPRA’s public hearing on K-Electric’s renewable energy projects, scheduled for today, has been postponed due to potential law and order concerns in Islamabad.
