President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Hussain Alvi will spend four days in Lahore before his tenure expires, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to reports, though Dr. Arif Alvi has so far not hinted at continuing as a head of state of the country till a new President is elected by the electoral college, it is being assumed that he might continue to enjoy some more months in the office as a President of the country.

The country’s 13th President Dr. Arif Alvi was sworn in on September 9, 2018, and his tenure will end on September 8, but he constitutionally may continue as President until a new president is elected by the electoral college in the country.

The Electoral College for the presidential election will be completed upon the formation of the new national and provincial assemblies.

It may be mentioned here that the electoral college comprises the Senate, the National Assembly, and all the provincial assemblies. While all the provincial assemblies and National Assembly have already been dissolved. Since there are no assemblies and no electoral college to elect a new president in his place Dr. Arif Alvi] can extend his tenure.

According to sources, two powerful personalities of the country had an important meeting with President Arif Alvi two days ago. An important message regarding the country’s sensitive issues was conveyed to the President.

After the new legislation, the President does not have the power to give the date of the election.  The new legislation allows the Election Commission of Pakistan to fix the date of the elections.

The President's tweet on the Official Secrets Act issue was out of context.

Dr Alvi did not make a final decision on September 9 on whether or not to step down, the sources concluded.
