King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to mark their 20th wedding anniversary during an official visit to Italy, which also marks their first state trip of 2025.
The royal couple will arrive in Italy on April 7, where they will engage in a series of formal engagements, highlighting King Charles' return to royal duties amid his ongoing recovery.
The visit is expected to culminate in a black-tie State Banquet hosted by Italian President Sergio Mattarella at the historic Quirinale Palace. Traditionally, the monarch and Queen Camilla celebrate their anniversary privately, but this year’s milestone will be marked more publicly during their diplomatic visit.
King Charles and Camilla were married on April 9, 2005, in a civil ceremony, nearly eight years after the passing of Princess Diana. Their wedding was notably postponed by a day to allow the then-Prince of Wales to attend Pope John Paul II’s funeral.
The couple had also planned to visit the Vatican during their Italian trip, but the stop was postponed following medical advice for Pope Francis, who had recently been hospitalized with a serious respiratory infection. The Vatican segment of the tour will be rescheduled once the Pope’s health allows, according to Buckingham Palace.
The royal visit underscores King Charles’ resilience and commitment to his royal duties, and comes at a significant personal moment for the royal couple.
