The MNAs of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Wednesday approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for the fulfilment of constitutional necessities regarding the acceptance of their resignations, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In their petition, they pleaded with the court to direct the speaker of National Assembly to fulfil his constitutional responsibility regarding the acceptance of their resignations.
They also requested the court to order the speaker to summon the petitioners and other 112 MNAs and confirm whether they submitted their resignations willingly under Article 64.
“According to the law, the speaker cannot attain satisfaction about resignations without hearing the petitioners. The election has not been announced yet, and the resignations of 123 MNAs have not even been seen together [by the speaker],” they said.
“When the resignation of MNA Abdul Shakoor Shad was accepted, he submitted a petition that the speaker had accepted his resignation without hearing him,” they added.
“On the petition of Abdul Shakoor Shad, the high court suspended the notification regarding the acceptance of his resignation. [We] The petitioners too did not appear before the speaker, and therefore, their resignations were not accepted,” they stated.
PTI MNAs including Ali Muhammad Khan, Fazal Muhammad Khan, Shaukat Ali, Dr Sherry Mazari, Dr Shandana Gulzar, Fakhar Zaman Khan, Farrukh Habib, Ijaz Shah, Jameel Ahmed and Muhammad Akram were among the petitioners.
