Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, accused the coalition government of deliberately maligning her brother, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
During a media talk on Monday, she claimed the government was trying to create the impression that Imran Khan sought a deal similar to the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) previously granted to political figures.
Aleema alleged that the ruling coalition has been spreading rumors about Imran Khan’s involvement in backdoor negotiations.
She claimed that the government had been attempting to force the former prime minister out of the country for the past three years and later considered placing him under house arrest to silence him.
“These messages didn’t come to us directly but through various sources,” she stated.
Aleema clarified that apart from the PTI’s negotiation committee, no other channels of communication exist. She said Imran Khan had outlined a two-point agenda for the committee – the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26 and the release of innocent PTI workers detained during political crackdowns.
She emphasized that Imran Khan’s main demand is for the rule of law to prevail and for PTI workers to have their innocence proven in court.
Aleema also addressed the £190 million case against Imran Khan, asserting that it was fabricated to pressure him. “He (Imran Khan) wants verdicts in these cases to be issued. He is not afraid of facing the consequences,” she remarked.
Describing the reference as illegal, she argued, “Children are receiving free education in this institution. The PTI founder is even willing to accept this so-called crime if it means justice will be served. Someone must answer for the operation conducted on November 26.”
She added, “After November 26, the circumstances have changed. We will continue to raise our voices despite the difficulties we face. The PTI founder believes that if the government shows seriousness in negotiations, the talks can progress.”
Aleema lamented that the government has yet to present any demands or respond to the PTI founder’s conditions. She noted, “The negotiation committee will meet Imran Khan, convey their findings, and then the process can move forward. However, the government is not allowing the PTI founder to hold meetings, which is hindering progress.”
