ECP to be fully prepared for general elections in October: Secretary

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Secretary Omar Hameed Khan said Monday while addressing a press conference that different institutions assisted in the preparation of electoral rolls, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
He said that the constituencies were demarcated according to Article 219, adding that the ECP was an independent and autonomous body.
“It is the job of the ECP to hold free and fair elections,” he pointed out.
He also informed the media that appointments had been made for reviewing voter lists.
Omar Hameed Khan said that the ECP was carrying out delimitation of constituencies on the final report of the census.
“The delimitation of constituencies will be completed in August this year. The ECP will be fully prepared for the general elections in October,” he declared.
“If there is a new census, its report must come by December 31. New delimitations will be necessary in case of new census. If the report comes by December 31, elections can be held in August 2023,” he stated.
