The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday ordered the trial courts hearing the May 9 cases to submit progress reports to the high courts every fortnight, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
During the hearing of the appeals filed by the Punjab government, seeking cancellation of bail granted to suspects in the May 9 incidents of violence, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi directed the counsel for the Punjab government to reconsider these appeals. “It is true that some of the court findings were not correct while giving decisions on bail petitions,” the CJP said, adding, “I order the courts to complete trials in three months.”
Speaking on the occasion, counsel for the Punjab government told the court that the provincial government’s statement detailing what happened on May 9 was ready. “Trial courts did not decide bail cases on merit,” he argued.
The CJP made it clear that if any suspect in the May 9 case again erred after securing bail, the law would take its course.
