Antenatal and intrapartum medications worth millions have been wasted due to negligence of the social welfare department in Korangi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
It was learnt that the expired medicines were locked up in the storeroom of the Social Welfare Department's district office in Shah Faisal.
All of the officers from the district office of the Population Department were absent, as was revealed by City21 – a sister organization of 24NewsHD TV - during a sting operation at the department's office. Only three subordinate workers, including the storekeeper, were present.
One of the storekeepers Ali Hasan revealed that earlier two storekeepers had committed embezzlement, which caused medication to expire.
Abdul Qadoos, an employee of the department who brought to light the embezzlement of millions, revealed that the district officer hid the expired medicines in the storeroom on the orders of the secretary of the department.
Furthermore, complaints about the lack of medicines during pregnancy and delivery have been made in other seven districts.
