Govt decides to dissolve boards of electricity supply companies

The federal government has decided to bring an ordinance related to the removal of board members of state-owned electricity distribution companies, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
According to sources, the federal cabinet approved the summary of the Ministry of Law and Justice for the ordinance.
Amendments to the Public-owned Enterprises Act 2023 have been decided, government sources said.
Sources further said that legal hurdles, complications in dissolution of boards through Ordinance will be addressed.
Boards of 9 government electricity distribution companies will be dissolved and new boards will be formed, said sources.
Sources in government said performance of independent directors in power companies is unsatisfactory.
It has been decided to change independent directors in all power companies and professionals will be appointed in electricity distribution companies, sources said.
In this regard, the Prime Minister had given permission to present the summary to the cabinet for the board members of 9 companies, sources added.
However, the Prime Minister had prevented the restructuring of the boards of SEPCO and HESCO from being presented to the cabinet, sources said.
