The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved an increase in electricity rates under the fourth quarterly adjustment for the fiscal year 2023-24, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
As per the new adjustment, electricity prices will rise by Rs 1.75 per unit. This additional charge will be reflected in the bills issued for September, October, and November.
The previous adjustment for the third quarter of 2023-24, which amounted to an increase of Rs 0.93 per unit, will conclude in August.
Consequently, consumers will see an effective increase of Rs 0.82 per unit in their September bills under the new quarterly adjustment.
The decision has been forwarded to the federal government for implementation, marking the next step in its approval process.
Meanwhile, the Nepra has approved a reduction in electricity charges under the monthly fuel charges adjustment for July.
As per Nepra ’s decision, the cost of electricity will be reduced by 37 paisa per unit, providing relief to consumers.
The reduction was approved following a hearing on the matter held on August 28, 2024.
Consumers will see the impact of this reduction in their September bills, offering some respite after a previous increase.
In August, the fuel charges adjustment for June had resulted in an increase of Rs 2.56 per unit, which was reflected in the bills.
However, with the new adjustment, there will be a reduction of Rs 2.93 per unit in September's bills.
