In a significant development for Pakistani travelers and professionals, UAE Ambassador Hamad Obaid Al Zaabi announced on Tuesday that Pakistani citizens are now eligible to apply for five-year visas to the United Arab Emirates.

The declaration was made during a meeting with Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori at the Governor House in Karachi, in the presence of UAE Consul General Bakheet Ateeq Al Remeithi.

This new visa option is expected to greatly benefit those seeking long-term travel, family visits, business opportunities, or extended stays in the UAE — home to over 1.7 million Pakistanis and one of Pakistan’s closest Gulf allies.

Ambassador Al Zaabi emphasized the strengthening ties between the two countries, lauding the governor’s development initiatives and inviting him to visit the UAE visa centre in Karachi.

The ambassador also took part in a tree plantation drive and a flag-hoisting ceremony, calling the moment a “symbol of enduring friendship” between Pakistan and the UAE in a heartfelt note in the guest book.

This move follows a recent clarification from UAE officials confirming that no visa ban exists for Pakistani nationals, quashing persistent rumours that had been circulating on social media and in some news circles.

Under the new five-year visa policy, applicants will need to provide:

•    A return ticket

•    Hotel reservation or accommodation proof

•    Proof of property ownership (if applicable)

•    A refundable AED 3,000 deposit

The UAE authorities have tightened documentation checks in recent years due to previous concerns about fake documents, visa overstays, and inappropriate online behavior. The Pakistan Embassy in Abu Dhabi has been actively working with UAE officials to address and resolve these concerns.

This development marks a positive step toward easing travel for Pakistanis while reinforcing diplomatic goodwill between Islamabad and Abu Dhabi. It’s also expected to boost tourism, business, and diaspora engagement as both countries explore deeper collaboration.
