The federal government on Tuesday constituted a high-level committee under the supervision of Sikandar Ali Memon from the petroleum division to determine the real cause behind the fire eruption in Korani Creek, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
According to details, a team comprising experts from different departments was already working, but the committee only gave instructions and consultations but failed to determine the real cause of the fire eruption, which remained uncontrolled despite the passage of eleven days.
The newly formed committee includes experts from Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Oil and Gas Development Corporation Limited (OGDCL), and Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL).
It is necessary to mention here that the mysterious fire in the city's Korangi area continues to burn unabated and has entered its 11th day with no sign of being doused on Tuesday.
The blaze's flame, as opposed to its earlier blue shade, has now turned reddish, indicating incomplete burning and the emission of carbon monoxide.
The fire, which started after a 1,200-foot-deep bore was drilled at the site on March 29, has led to concerns about the type and volume of gas responsible for the blaze.
A preliminary chemical analysis, as per the Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) sources, of the water breaking out of the ditch at the site of the ongoing fire in the Korangi area has revealed the presence of hazardous chemicals.
The initial report, compiled following water sampling from the fire site, has detected excessive quantities of benzene, toluene, and tetrachloroethylene.
The committee will also review losses that occurred due to the fire eruption.
