Punjab Governor wants revival of student unions

Punjab Governor Sardar Salim Haider Khan Tuesday said the student unions should be brought back to overcome the leadership crisis in the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
During a meeting with a delegation of journalists associated with the education sector, the Punjab Governor discussed key national and educational issues prevailing in the country.
He said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) believes in the revival of student unions, however, he also cautioned against violent behavior and bullying culture saying it cannot be tolerated. He also made it clear that harassment and drug use in universities will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Talking about President Asif Ali Zardari’s health, the governor said he is recovering well and will soon resume his responsibilities.
He also stressed the need for unity on the canal project, saying that the Council of Common Interests must gather all stakeholders for mutual consultation to make a fair decision.
He said that the Prime Minister should play his role in resolving the issue and added that all ethnic groups — Punjabis, Sindhis, Baloch, and Pashtuns are Pakistanis and must work together. Punjab Governor highlighted the need to listen to Sindh’s concerns and said it is essential to include Sindh in the planning process. He said that all political parties must unite against terrorism by putting aside their differences.
