The Sindh High Court on Monday heard petitions related to the recovery of six missing citizens from various areas of Karachi. The court was informed that two of the missing individuals, Zulfiqar and Abdul Haq, had returned home, following which their cases were disposed of, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.
One of the petitioners, Safia Naz, had filed a case regarding the disappearance of her son from Nazimabad, while another woman, Shabana, reported her son missing from the jurisdiction of Tipu Sultan Police Station.
During the hearing, the petitioners’ counsel informed the court that after returning home, the sons had disclosed the names of those involved in their abduction to the police. However, he alleged that police officials were showing reluctance and making excuses instead of cooperating.
Responding to this, the court stated that the missing persons case had been resolved in this forum and advised that any concerns regarding the police behavior should be addressed under the relevant legal provisions.
Justice Zafar Rajput expressed dissatisfaction over the police's method of handling such cases, questioning whether any standard operating procedures (SOPs) existed for investigating missing persons. He remarked, “It has been four years since her son went missing, and every hearing the police just bring out printed computer papers.”
The court ordered the police to appear on April 30 with complete details and an update on all pending cases.
