Negotiations between polio in-charge Bannu and tribal elders on the resumption of polio campaign in the city, which came to a halt only on its second day, have failed, as the elders insist boycott of the campaign will continue until power is restored to two areas of the city, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
The campaign had to be stopped after tribal elders banned the entry of polio workers in two parts of the city namely Khudri Momand Khel and Seerhi Baka Khel.
The elders even formed a 30-member Lashkar, headed by Malik Amin Feroze, to ensure that no polio worker could enter these two localities.
Members of the Lashkar are patrolling the city’s roads in order to ward off the polio workers.
Notables of the area say they had to impose a ban when they felt they were not being taken seriously by both the district administration and WAPDA officials.
