Girl’s suicide at Karachi s Seaview takes a shocking turn

Vet doctor Sarah Malik was raped before her death: Father lodges FIR as police vow thorough probe: Hospital’s owner, another lady doctor arrested

The alleged suicide of a young girl at Karachi Seaview has taken a shocking turn on Sunday after it was discovered that the girl was raped, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The 23-year-old girl was identified as Sarah Malik who was a veterinary doctor at a hospital. 

The preliminary investigation of Dr Sarah Malik case suggested that she was sexually assaulted by hospital owner Dr Shan Salim due to which Sarah committed suicide. After her death, the police have arrested the hospital owner and another lady doctor.

The dead body of the girl was fished out of the sea on Sunday morning. Edhi divers retrieved the body of Sarah Malik. She had left her home on Friday morning for work but never came back.

According to police, the body of the girl will be handed over to her family after completing the medico-legal requirements. The post-mortem of the body will be carried out at Jinnah Hospital.

The rescue sources added that Sarah Malik had jumped into the sea at Do Darya point on Friday afternoon last. Initial findings suggested that she had been under tremendous mental stress.

On the other hand, the girl’s family asserted that she could not commit suicide. Therefore, the incident was being investigated from different aspects.

A cell phone had also been recovered from the woman’s bag. Further investigations were being carried out with the help of that cell phone.

Sarah’s father had got registered an FIR at Sahil Police Station. In the FIR, Sarah’s father has held Dr Shan Salim and Dr Bisma responsible for her daughter's suicide.

He said on January 6th Sarah called her mother and told her that she was raped by Dr Shan Salim. 

SSP Investigation South Zahida Parveen said that the investigation police have arrested Dr Shan Salim after registration of the case. 

The father also revealed that Sarah Malik had attempted suicide before. “The girl was working at his clinic for two years, and Dr Shan Salim also gave her a loan of Rs00,000. Following the loan, he used to blackmail Sarah to have an illicit relationship with him,” he continued. 

SSP Zahida Parveen further said that in the investigation of Dr Shan Salim, it was also learnt that many girls previously became prey of his blackmailing. 

Sarah Malik also told her co-worker that she was raped by Dr Shan Salim on January 6.

Police have arrested the owner and female staff of the hospital on the complaint of the victim’s father and further investigation was underway.
