Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President and Chief Organizer Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that former ISI director general Lt-General (retd) Faiz Hameed should be court-martialled as he had played a role in destroying the country for two years by toppling the PML-N government and supporting the Imran Khan government for almost four years.
In a detailed interview with wenews.pk website, Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, said that the former ISI chief should be made an “example” for others for playing an unconstitutional role.
Maryam said that when General Faiz Hameed was serving as ISI DG, she had moved court against him. "I had submitted an application and presented evidence in which the biggest proof was that General Faiz had gone to the house of the then Islamabad High Court judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui Sahib and told him that he had to punish Nawaz Sharif and Maryam and also refuse them bail. “And you will remember that he gave an on-camera statement and said how do you know that there will be punishment. He had said that we have two years of hard work,” she added.
Maryam Nawaz said that the two years that he (General Faiz) had “worked hard” and after that he had again “worked hard” to destroy this country for four years after bringing Imran Khan into power. He should not only be court-martialled but he should also be made an example so no one else has the courage to repeat his blunders again.
Maryam said that the biggest punishment for those who brought the 'hybrid system' has come from the public awareness campaign in the form of 'respect the vote'. "I think it is a matter of great pleasure that Nawaz Sharif has made a sacrifice and made people believe in a very good way that everything looks good within his constitutional character and whoever does anything out of this role will have to pay a price," she elaborated.
Maryam Nawaz made it clear that she criticized the elements playing unconstitutional roles, but she is not in favour of targeting any institution. "It's one or two or a few people who bring disrepute to institutions because of their actions and I think institutions should also punish and hold accountable all those who bring disrepute to them, and because of whom fingers have been pointed at the institutions,” she opined.
On the question that the PML-N is assailing General Faiz, but with the passage of time, its criticism of former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa is hard to find, Maryam Nawaz said that When General Bajwa was in service, Nawaz Sharif had taken his name in the public meeting.
"I don't think a name can ever disappear. When “one page” was at its prime and no one dared to take his name, Mian Sahib had publicly challenged him by name and this was Mian Sahib's important role,” she recalled.
The PML-N leader said that as long as General Bajwa continued to support Imran Khan, PTI government remained intact and till then he (Imran Khan) was seen showering loads of praise on General Bajwa and when he retired, “we saw how Imran Khan attacked him.”
She said "It is a sign of a coward that you target the one who is on his way out, and bow to those who are in his place now."
