The Speaker of the National Assembly has received a reference seeking the disqualification of Member of National Assembly (MNA) Sohail Sultan, who represents Swat's NA-4 constituency, sources revealed.

The reference was submitted by Nasrullah Khan, a resident of Swat. According to the sources, the petition alleges that Sohail Sultan provided false information to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding his employment status.

The petitioner claims that Sultan held the position of Deputy Attorney General for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa prior to his election, a violation of election law which bars government employees from contesting elections until two years after their employment termination.

The reference demands immediate disqualification of Sohail Sultan and calls for swift action by the Speaker.

In response, the Speaker has reportedly sent a letter to the Election Commission, requesting legal action to assess the validity of the claims and determine Sultan's disqualification status.

The case now rests with the Election Commission for further deliberation and action.
