Pakistan has expressed deep concern over the disproportionate impact of the Ukraine conflict on civilians, reaffirming its consistent position on protecting human rights and international humanitarian law, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Wednesday.

Speaking at the UN Security Council session on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, Usman Jadoon, Pakistan’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, said that Pakistan is deeply concerned about the suffering of civilians and the destruction of civilian infrastructure caused by the conflict.

He stressed, “The protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure is a fundamental requirement under international law and international humanitarian law. It must be fully and consistently respected by all parties.”

He emphasised the importance of ensuring access and safety for humanitarian workers, adding that all parties must facilitate unhindered humanitarian operations.

Welcoming the limited ceasefire agreement reached last month to halt attacks on energy infrastructure and the Black Sea region, Jadoon said, “We hope that all parties will sincerely honour their obligations and utilise this progress to achieve a comprehensive and durable peace through a permanent ceasefire.”

He reiterated that Pakistan’s stance on the Ukraine conflict has remained consistent from the outset — calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities and encouraging resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.

Usman Jadoon further stated that Pakistan supports ongoing diplomatic efforts that aim for a just and lasting resolution of the conflict, based on the principles of the UN Charter, international law, relevant multilateral agreements, and respect for the legitimate national security interests of all parties.
