The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Wednesday issued a heatwave alert for all schools across the province and recommended that the Education Department announce summer vacations earlier, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
The PDMA has officially notified both the Department of School Education and the Higher Education Department, urging immediate changes in school timetables to avoid heat-related risks.
The authority also instructed all educational institutions to suspend outdoor activities immediately in view of the soaring temperatures.
This alert comes a day after the PDMA issued a rain and heatwave forecast for Punjab from April 8 to 11, warning of both rainfall and rising mercury levels. According to the alert, Lahore is expected to receive rain from April 9 to 10.
The minimum temperature in Lahore stood at 30°C, with the maximum forecast to rise to 39°C, while humidity levels were recorded at 39%.
The PDMA has also expressed concern over the deteriorating air quality in Lahore, with a slight decrease in overall pollution, but smog levels still dangerously high, recorded at 183 percent.
