Celebrated Pakistani actress, director, and producer Samina Peerzada turned 70 today, marking a remarkable journey that spans over five decades in Pakistan’s entertainment industry. According to media reports, fans and celebrities alike showered heartfelt wishes on the iconic star, who remains one of the most admired figures in both film and television.
Born into an educated Kashmiri family in Lahore, Samina moved to Karachi following her parents’ separation. After graduating in commerce, she defied convention and stepped into the world of modelling in 1974 before establishing herself as one of the most successful actresses of the 1980s and 1990s.
Her cinematic journey includes memorable performances in films like Nazdikiyan, Mukhra, Shaadi Mere Shohar Ki, Bulandi, and Bazar-e-Husn. On stage, she received critical acclaim for her roles in Raaz-o-Niaz and Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, which she performed internationally at Oslo’s prestigious Ibsen Festival.
Peerzada’s television legacy includes unforgettable roles in hit dramas like Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Meri Zaat Zarra-e-Benishan, Rehaai, Durr-e-Shahwar, Dastaan, and Karobi. Her talent also took her to Hollywood, where she appeared in the 2018 film The Valley alongside fellow Pakistani actor Alyy Khan.
Beyond acting, Samina Peerzada made her directorial debut with Inteha, a bold and critically acclaimed film addressing marital rape, which went on to win nine national awards. Though her second directorial venture, Shararat, didn’t perform as well, her impact behind the camera was undeniable.
Currently, she hosts the widely followed YouTube show Rewind with Samina Peerzada, where she interviews prominent personalities in candid, heartfelt conversations.
She married fellow artist Usman Peerzada in 1975, and the couple has two daughters, Anum and Amal—the latter a gifted miniature artist. Throughout her career, Samina Peerzada has been recognised with numerous accolades, including multiple Hum Awards and Lifetime Achievement Awards in both Pakistan and the UK.
