Energy minister hints at up to Rs12 cut in electricity tariff

Energy Minister Awais Ahmed Leghari has said that the federal government was planning to slash electricity prices by Rs10 to Rs12 per unit, adding that for domestic consumers, power tariff had already been reduced by Rs4 per unit, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Speaking during the meeting of National Assembly's Standing Committee on Energy in Islamabad on Thursday, Awais Leghari said the government was holding talks with the IMF on captive power plants (CPPs).
Energy Minister claimed that the issue of captive power plants is coming to an end which will be finalized by end of January 2025. He said the government wanted to reduce electricity prices by Rs50.
The federal minister said that 8 bagasse plants are going to be reviewed and 16 more IPPs plants rates are being revised and finally Energy Minister will focus on government power plants.
