Pakistan now has 8,825 active coronavirus cases

Another 543 people were diagnosed with the coronavirus during the past 24 hours (Wednesday), raising the overall number of cases reported in Pakistan to 312,806.
The same period also witnessed five more people dying of the coronavirus infection after which the death toll has reached 6,484, shows the figures released by National Command and Operation Centre on Thursday morning.
Sindh has so far recorded 137,106 coronavirus cases with the recent uptick in the infections also being witnessed in Karachi, making the officials suggest that a smart lockdown may be imposed in the localities affected by the virus.
Meanwhile, the region-wise distribution of the coronavirus cases in other parts of the country is: Punjab 99,479, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 37,811, Islamabad 16,611, Balochistan 15,281, Gilgit-Baltistan 3,787 and Azad Kashmir 2,731.
On the other hand, 297,497 people have so far fully recovered from the infection. It includes the 616 recoveries reported during the past 24 hours. It means the number of closed cases [death toll + number of people recovering] now stands at 303,981.
However, the country still has 8,825 active cases out of which 490 patients are in critical and being treated in intensive care units of different hospitals.
The past 24 hours also had another 34,239 tests administered in the country. Hence, the number of tests conducted since the coronavirus pandemic outbreak in the country has increased to 3,548,476.
