Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said President Arif Alvi should have signed the Supreme Court reform bill on his own.

The bill is being sent to the president again and it will become law within 10 days even after the president does not sign it, the minister maintained while talking to 24NewsHD TV channel.

He stressed there should be the right to appeal against the Suo Motu decision. The judicial reform bill will restore the prestige of the top court it lost in wake of the bench-fixing issue, the minister advocated, adding that this bill will lead to the independence of the judiciary and restore people’s trust in the top court.

He said the Election Commission's letter has been received and the legislation be done very soon. “The letter will be consulted on and soon their proposals will be enacted into law.”

"In politics, the doors of negotiations are not closed, he said, adding that Imran Khan is a strange person. When Imran Khan was in power, he never talked to the opposition and doing the same now."

Earlier in the day, the joint session of the parliament reapproved the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill, 2023.

The bill was sent to President Arif Alvi for approval but he returned to reconsideration, said the law minister in his address during the session.
