Cases of gastroenteritis are on the rise in Multan city with 226 patients being referred to the tertiary care hospitals for admissions by general physicians during the last 24 hours, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

This sudden increase has put a considerable strain on healthcare facilities, as they work tirelessly to manage and treat the influx of patients.

Nishtar Hospital received 61 gastroenteritis patients, highlighting the severity of the outbreak due to contaminated food and the absence of safe potable water in the city.

The Children's Hospital also reported a substantial number of cases, with 71 young patients being treated for the illness.

Shahbaz Sharif Hospital admitted 36 patients suffering from gastroenteritis, while South City Hospital saw 32 cases.

Additionally, 26 patients were reported in various town hospitals across Multan, indicating that the outbreak has affected multiple areas within the city.

The sudden rise in gastroenteritis cases has prompted health officials to investigate potential causes and implement measures to control the spread.

Gastroenteritis, often caused by bacterial or viral infections, leads to inflammation of the stomach and intestines, resulting in symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

Healthcare professionals in Multan are urging residents to take preventive measures to avoid infection. These include maintaining proper hygiene, ensuring safe drinking water, and consuming well-cooked food.
