The registration fees for both private and government medical and dental colleges in Pakistan have been significantly increased, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Thursday.

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has raised the registration fee for private institutions by 50%, from Rs10,000 to Rs15,000, while setting the fee for public institutions at Rs7,000.

According to the channel report, the new fees have been effective since September 10, 2024.

Meanwhile, the Sindh High Court has ordered a temporary suspension on the publication of the MDCAT merit list, instructing institutions not to proceed with admissions until further notice.

The court has also directed a committee to investigate the matter within 15 days.

Thousands of aspiring medical students remain in limbo as the medical and dental college admission policy has yet to be released, more than two weeks after the MDCAT exam was held.

Sources reveal that in previous years, the admission policy would be issued before the MDCAT exams.

Due to the ongoing delay, the admission process has been stalled. The Department of Specialized Health is working to finalize and release the policy soon, but concerns remain about the revision of quotas and the extended delay.
