Judicial Council approves elevation of LHC’s Justice Ali Baqir Najafi to SC

Judicial Council met on Friday under the chair of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahaya Afridi to review two appointments in Supreme Court of Pakistan.
After detailed deliberation, Judicial Council approved with majority the elevation of Lahore High Court Judge Justice Ali Baqir Najafi to SC.
The names of five senior judges of the Lahore High Court were considered in the meeting but the majority decided on the name of only one judge Justice Ali Baqir Najfi. Two PTI members also voted in favor of Justice Baqir Najafi, another judge for the Supreme Court could not be approved.
Judicial Commission unanimously approves deletion of observation regarding Justice Shujaat Ali Khan.
It was decided to appoint new members of the Judicial Commission in place of the acting Chief Justice. Justice retired Maqbool Baqir was appointed as a member of the Judicial Commission from Sindh, Justice retired Nazir Lango from the Balochistan High Court made a member of the Judicial Commission.
Justice retired Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui from the Islam High Court and Justice retired Shakirullah Jan from the Peshawar High Court were appointed as members of the Judicial Commission. The Judicial Commission meeting lasted for about two and a half hours.
