The larger bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC) has ruled that the bail application of Sahir Hasan, arrested in a narcotics case, falls under the jurisdiction of the constitutional bench, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Tuesday.

According to the report, the court resolved a legal dispute over which bench was authorized to hear the bail plea, concluding that the matter concerns fundamental rights and, therefore, should be addressed under Article 199, sub-section 1(c) of the Constitution.

The bench observed that cases involving basic rights can indeed be heard by a constitutional bench. Accordingly, the court has requested that the constitutional bench schedule the bail hearing of Sahir Hasan for April 24 (Thursday).

Sahir Hasan, who is currently in jail on judicial remand, is accused of possessing 557 grams of weed (ganja) recovered from him during arrest. He is the son of renowned television actor Sajid Hasan.
