Downpour, snowfall intensify cold

Balochistan receives heavy rain, snowfall; Disaster management on alert; Met Office forecasts spell likely to go on for two days

Most parts of the country have received rain and snowfall while the Meteorological Department forecast the ongoing spell likely continue intermittently for two days.

According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the rain brought a little relief as fog-fall decreased. Snowfall in the upper parts of the northwest has increased the intensity of the cold.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts including Peshawar received rain and snowfall. After the rain, the intensity of the cold increased. The disaster management has issued directives to the departments concerned to be on alert to avert any untoward incident 

Snowfall was reported in Chitral, Tirah Valley.  Downpours and snowfall in Balochistan increased the severity of the cold drastically, crippling life in parts of the province. Reports of rain have been received in Pishin, Chaman Qila Saifullah, Mastung Nushki, Khuzdar and adjoining areas. 

Many areas have been cut off from other parts. According to the meteorological department, there is a possibility of light rain in the coastal areas of Makran. The temperature dropped to 2 degrees centigrade in Quetta, minus 4 in Ziyarat, 1 in Zhob,  13 in Turbat, 8 in Panjgur, 11 in Gwadar, 7 in Khuzdar and 11  2 degrees centigrade in Lesbela.

According to Met Office, moderate to heavy rain and snowfall are expected in Punjab, KP, Balochistan, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. There is a possibility of a reduction in fog in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Upper Sindh and intermittent rain is expected in Islamabad too.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dir, Chitral, Swat, Malakand, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Peshawar, Nowshera, Swabi, Kohat, Kurram, Bajaur, Khyber, Parachinar, Waziristan, Bannu, Karak and Lakki Marwat are likely to receive rain and snowfall. Moderate to heavy rain and snowfall are also expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Kohistan, Mansehra and Abbottabad.

In Kashmir, rain and snowfall are likely in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Siddhnoti, Kotli, Bhimbar, Mirpur, Met Office said.

In the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, there is a possibility of a decrease in fog.  Rain is expected in Potohar, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Lahore, and Hafizabad in Punjab Moderate to heavy snowfall is likely in Murree, Gilyat and surrounding areas

Weather will remain cold and dry in most districts of Sindh. Fog is likely in Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad and Mohenjodaro in the morning hours, Meteorological Department said.
