Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa on Monday expressed his strong displeasure over the failure of Islamabad Police to arrest those responsible for the disappearance of journalists Matiullah Jan and Absar Alam, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing the inspector general of police (IGP), Islamabad during the hearing of journalists harassment case, the CJP said how unfortunate it was that despite the fact that recording of these crimes existed, the police had still been unable to trace the culprits. “Attorney General sab! What kind of IGP is he? He must be fired. Four years have passed. And still there is no success. After all, how much more time do you want?” the chief justice questioned.
“Will you take centuries to get to the kidnappers? Why have you come to the court IGP sab? Have you come here only to show your face?” Justice Isa questioned.
“It is so sad that either a journalist is shot dead or he is beaten inside his home,” the CJP lamented.
Barrister Salahuddin, counsel for the Press Association of Supreme Court, who appeared in the court, informed that journalist Asad Toor was in jail.
“Why is he in jail?” the chief justice asked.
“Toor is facing the allegation of maligning government servants,” barrister informed.
