Acid was thrown on a bride just six days after her marriage and she has lost her eyesight as a result. But this incident happened five months ago and it was later revealed that it was her in-laws who committed this crime in Punjab District Lodhran, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
But what was the crime of 18-year-old Sharifan Bibi? Not bringing the required dowry with her because she is the daughter of a poor brick-kiln labourer. And her father, Yasin, is still unable to ensure justice for being a weak and poor labourer.
Initially, her husband claimed to be the aggrieved party and were among those who pressed the case despite the story narrated by the victim. But the facts were otherwise with he and his brother nominated in the case four months after they committed the inhuman act.
According to details, Sharifan was asleep in the courtyard when acid was thrown at her. She says it was her husband, brother-in-law and his wife who did it. Her body, including the face, received severe burns, making her blind.
Sharifan is not only a victim of poverty but also an irresponsive police attitude to say the least. She says the husband wasn’t happy from day one of her marriage. Only two of the five accused have so far been arrested, she added.
On the other hand, her father, Yasin, says the investigation officer has refused to record their statement due to political pressure. He is tired after visiting the police station again and again while also ensuring the treatment of her daughter, Yasin added. “I am just a brick-kiln worker.”
But the police refuted the account and promised merit in the process. They said they had arrested Sharifan’s husband and brother-in-law, adding that other accused had not been nominated so far.
