Justice (Retired) Syed Jaffar Shah, president of the Gilgit-Baltistan chapter of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was laid to rest on Sunday evening.

PTI chief organiser in Gilgit-Baltistan Hafeezullah Niazi and other key leaders of the party attended the funeral prayers for Shah.

Shah, a retired judge of the Supreme Appellate Court of Gilgit-Baltistan and a former member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, was suffering from cancer and he passed away at a hospital in Islamabad after a protracted illness. He was also elected to the bar council multiple times. He joined the PTI in 2018 and had been a party candidate in the Gilgit-III constituency.

Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed his deep sorrow and grief at the death of Shah and offered his condolences to the grieving family. He said that Shah was an asset of the party.
