A police sub-inspector embraced martyrdom and two other policemen sustained injuries during a shootout with dacoits in Pakpattan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
According to police, a gang of dacoits was busy looting a wedding procession when a police team reached the spot.
The dacoits fled away upon seeing the police team, but they were chased and besieged near Nathin Bodla village.
During an exchange of fire, Sub-Inspector Sarwar Akram embraced martyrdom and two other policemen sustained injuries.
Pakpattan Saddr police and Elite Force had taken part in the shootout in which a dacoit was also killed while chase for the others continued.
Pakpattan District Police Officer (DPO) Tauseef Haider had also reached the spot to supervise the operation.
Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Faisal Shahkar paid glowing tribute to martyred sub-inspector Sarwar Akram.
“Sub-Inspector Sarwar Akram embraced martyrdom in the line of duty. Punjab police will never forget his sacrifice. The martyr’s family and his young son will be taken care of,” the IGP pledged.
He also sought a detailed report on the incident and ordered immediate arrest of the fleeing dacoits.
It is to be noted here that Sarwar Akram had joined Punjab police as sub-inspector on August 20, 2015. He is survived by a widow and one-and-a-half-year-old son Azan.
