Supreme Court declares ban on drama ‘Jalan’ as against freedom of expression

ARY’s digital’s serial ‘Jalan’ was banned by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) three years ago in 2020 under Section 27 of the Pemra Ordinance.
The case was registered in the court against the drama over the complaints received to PEMRA by the viewers for showing indecent content.
In a recent notification, the Supreme Court of Pakistan declared the ban on the drama a violation of freedom of expression.
the court added, “The complete ban on the drama serial was against the rules and principles of freedom of expression.”
The ban should be imposed only in the case when there will be any objectionable content or scene in the drama.

‘Jalan’ features Pakistan’s renowned stars including Minal Khan, Emaad Irfaani and Areeba Habib having lead roles.
The storyline of ‘Jalan’ was based on a love triangle where the sister-in-law falls in love with her brother-in-law.
