There was no let-up in fatal accidents involving rashly-driven trucks, as another child was crushed to death by a water tanker in Karachi on Saturday, bringing the four-month death toll from accidents involving dumpers to 81, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The water tanker crushed the four-year-old boy to death in Baldia Abidabad area of Karachi. The conductor was driving the truck inside a playground where children were playing.

The water tanker crushed Affan in the playground, family said, adding the conductor then fled from the accident site.

The boy’s body was later shifted to Civil Hospital.

Meanwhile, in another incident involving a heavyduty vehicle, a bold dumper driver ran over a police car on Shahrae Faisal and fled.

The policeman signalled the driver to stop the dumper after he violated the fast lane rule. The cop also drove his car in front of the dumper so it could not escape.

But the dumper driver instead of stopping hit the police vehicle and overran it.

Reacting to the increasing incidents of accidents involving heavy vehicles, MQM leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui blamed the government and the police for such accidents. “Drunk drivers should not be allowed to enter the city,” he said and added the dumper driver must have a licence.
