Crops destroyed, hundreds of homes flooded after River Indus burst its banks in Muzaffargarh

Hundreds of homes and crops grown over thousands of acres of land were inundated after the River Indus burst its banks at Jatoi Lundi Patafi area in Muzaffargarh, while the locals had to shift to safe places on their own, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.    

The affected people, on the other hand, complained that nobody from the administration had come to their rescue, and even if somebody visited the area, it was restricted to photo sessions only.

They appealed to the Punjab chief minister, Dera Ghazi Khan commissioner and the district administration to take immediate notice of their plight and make arrangements for their rehabilitation.    

Monsoon rains continue to lash large parts of country

On the other hand, heavy monsoon rains were reported from several parts of the country on Monday.   

Several Punjab cities, including Lahore, received showers.

Other cities of the province, which received rains included Sialkot, Gujrat, Gujranwala and Rawalpindi.

The weather in Islamabad too turned quite pleasant after the downpour.

Weather Department forecasts more rains

The Met Office predicted more rains for different parts of the country during the next 24 hours.   

It said that more thundershowers, accompanied by strong gales, were expected in Islamabad and its outskirts.    

The department said rains and strong winds were likely in almost all parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) namely Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Balakot, Buner, Swabi, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Malakand, Mohmand, Khyber, Bajaur, Peshawar, Kohat, Orakzai, Kurram, Karak, Bannu, Tank, Dera Ismael Khan and Waziristan.  

It, however, forecast torrential rains for some of these areas.

In Punjab, the Met Office said more rains were expected in Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Multan, Khanewal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa, Bhakkar, Layyah, Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan.

The weather department forecast hot and humid weather for most parts of Balochistan, barring Zhob, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Kohlu, Loralai, Ziarat, Sibbi, Dera Bugti, Khuzdar, Kalat, Awaran where it said rains and strong winds were expected at a few places.  

Hot and humid weather was also predicted for Sindh.

However, the Met Office said that coastal areas of the province were likely to receive light rain.  

Besides that, it said that thundershowers were also expected at a few places in Kashmore, Jacobabad, Tharparkar, Umarkot, Sanghar, Sukkur, Khairpur, Larkana and Dadu.    

Similarly, it also predicted that different parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir as well as Gilgit-Baltistan would receive rains.
