A high drama was seen in Wazirabad city of Punjab when Punjab Police arrested and then released senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ataullah Tarrar, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

PML-N leader Saira Afzal Tarar first confirmed Ataullah’s arrest saying he has been arrested on the charges of illegal weapons and later revealed that he has been released.

Ataullah Tarar was in Waziarabad in connection with a by-election campaign.

The police had also arrested three other PML-N leaders including Gujranwala Division president Ijaz Ahmed Kotla, district president Mustanssar Gondal and Ijaz Proya. Latter they all were released as well.

Later, Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan briefed the media that Ataullah Tarar was not arrested.

She said the police have stopped the car of a notorious person Abid Raza on the reports of having illegal weapons in his car.

She said when the police have stopped the car, Tarar came over and argued with the police and sat in the police van and asked the police to talk the matter in the police station.

Firdous said the PML-N leader has staged the whole drama with the help of his party to win sympathies of the people in the by-elections. She said Tarar was neither arrested nor released as he had come to the police station by himself and left it by his own will.

She said PML-N leader was mastermind behind the whole drama and he and his party tried to use the incident for political gains.
