Establishment of Public Liaison Committees across Punjab directed

Punjab government's exemplary initiative to maintain law and order as the Home Department has directed the establishment of Public Liaison Committees across the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
According to the spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department, directions have been issued to deputy commissioners across Punjab to establish public liaison committees up to the police station level.
Committees comprising representatives of the society and government officials will be formed. Public Liaison Committees will act as community watchdogs.
Committee members will identify any threat in a timely manner and report suspicious activity. The committees will act as a bridge for information exchange between citizens and the police.
The committees will assist law enforcement agencies in religious ceremonies, public gatherings, or emergencies. Public Liaison Committees will promote citizen awareness at the local level.
Establishment of Public Liaison Committees (PLCs) will increase trust between citizens and law enforcement agencies. Public Liaison Committees will help in dealing with the threats of terrorism and extremism.
The Home Department has also issued instructions on the structure and duties of public liaison committees. In the first phase, a public liaison committee will be established immediately at the level of each police station.
In the second phase, the committee will be activated up to the neighborhood and ward levels within three months.
The public liaison committee will include the concerned police station in charge and local dignitaries such as eminent elders, traders, elected representatives, and religious leaders.
Trustworthy youth and local social workers will also be included in each public liaison committee. The concerned Assistant Commissioner and SDPO will jointly chair the monthly meeting of the committee.
The public liaison committee established within the limits of each police station will work under the respective District Coordination Committee.
The monthly progress of the sub-divisions will be discussed in the District Coordination Committees.
The District Coordination Committees will send the progress of each month to the Provincial Coordination Committee and Home Department.
The Home Department has directed the formation of committees on a priority basis across Punjab. The committees will be activated by April 20, and the details of the members and the action plan will be sent to the Home Department.
Directions have been issued to all deputy commissioners, RPOs, CPOs, DPOs, and CCPOs in Lahore.
The Punjab Home Department is to review the performance of all public liaison committees.
