Iran on Sunday strongly condemned the killings of eight Pakistanis in its Balochistan-Sistan province on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In its statement on the incident, the country’s embassy in Islamabad said that such an inhumane and cowardly act was simply unacceptable.

The embassy further said that such violent tendencies had taken the lives of thousands of people in the last few decades. “Joint efforts are needed to deal with the scourge of terrorism,” it said, and added, “Because only through such efforts can terrorism and extremism be eliminated.”

The embassy said that terrorism posed a threat to the entire region.

As many as eight Pakistani workers were killed in the Iranian province of Balochistan-Sistan on Saturday.

The victims were the residents of Bahawalpur district in southern Punjab. The incident took place in the village of Hasabad Payin in the Iranian district of Mehrestan.

The unknown attackers who were more than a dozen managed to escape from the scene after the attack.

All the deceased workers were motor mechanics in a workshop. The five victims were identified as Dilshad, Naeem, Jaffar, Danish and Nasir. The deceased Dilshad is said to be the owner of the motor workshop that was targeted by the terror attack.

Iran to hand over bodies to Pakistan

Also on Sunday, the government of Iran told Pakistan’s embassy officials in Tehran that the forensic of the bodies of eight Pakistanis, who had been killed in Balochistan-Sistan province, was being conducted for their identification and it might take eight to 10 days for their return to Pakistan.

Quoting its sources, 24News TV channel reported that the officials were told that following their forensic, permission would be sought from a court for their handover to the Pakistani authorities.

They were also told that there were difficulties in accessing the area because of its remoteness.
